Linked Double Crochet ~ A Crochet Stitch Tutorial

Linked double crochet is one of my go-to stitches when it comes to making a dense, solid piece. With the right hook and correct yarn weight, linked double crochet can give you compact stitches that keep things from showing through, a breeze from going through, or just a unique look.

Linked double crochet, abbreviated as “ldc”, may seem complex, but it’s really not. You can find examples of linked double crochet in my free pattern Linked Flop Top Mittens and a new premium pattern releasing soon! But for now, find out how to work the linked double crochet and how to join in this tutorial. Video tutorials can be found at the end of this post. How to Join Linked Double Crochet

me. Joining like a normal double will leave a large gap. Linking the last and first stitch of each round is ideal to keep the same appearance. Though I’ve seen a few ways to join linked double crochet, this is the way that works best for me.

Insert hook into horizontal bar on last stitch then insert hook right below the horizontal bar on the first stitch.
Yarn over and pull through stitch and one loop on hook.
Insert hook into first stitch.
Pull through stitch and two loops on hook.
